When visitors cross the drawbridge they now hear the portcullis thundering down, chains rattling and the clatter of horses and marching of soldiers. This sound system is triggered with a PIR sensor, so that it starts the digital audio player as visitors approach.
Once in the visitor centre, there are 2 projectors, one displaying cheeky past castle characters that appear to pop out of the wall, and help bring the castle’s story to life by introducing themed trails. There is also a sound dome above, so that the narration is confined to a small area of the visitor centre. The other projector is used to project words in both Welsh and English onto a map.
